Tourism sector, generally speaking, is a concept including both treatment and holiday components. In terms of having been these two dimensions, Turkey has a unique position. However, it can not be stated that Turkey has succesfully used its incomparable position so far.

►Health Care Reforms in Turkey

20 April 2006

Reconstruction of health care system has been on the agenda in Turkey since the early 1990s with the objective of equity; the current government (59th Government) has also tried to continue this reform process, entitled “Health Transformation Programme” (December 2003), and "Social Security Reforms" by aiming at the establishment of a universal health insurance programme, in order to provide more equitable access to health care for all citizens.

The General Health Insurance Law was enacted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (Turkiye Buyuk Millet Meclisi-TBMM) on 19 April 2006 and will enter into force on 1 January 2007.
